As Expected Bose Sleepbuds II an amazing in ear white noise generating sleep aid
Selection Criteria, Usage and Conclusion
Summary: I used to listen to sounds of nature CD’s on repeat to help me sleep when I was younger. At some point I moved up to a white noise machine with buttons that play the different sounds and had a timer. That was fine if the person I was sharing the space with also found that helpful in falling asleep.
This product seems like the perfect blend of allowing a personal choice in white noise while also blocking the environment of noise around that might make it difficult to fall or stay asleep. I always liked the sounds of waves or rain to fall asleep to. The library includes wonderful options that can loaded onto the device and provide options to select from. The batteries certainly make it through a full night sleep.
Summary of use: I’ve had the Bose Sleepbuds II for a few months now. I have enjoyed using them. I’ve played with adding and removing sounds to make my personal library of the sounds I really enjoy. I am very partial to the rumble of thunder in a rainstorm and the tapping of rain falling on a canvas tent. Those two sounds probably account for half of my nights using them so far. Loading them is easy enough, but it does take a few minutes to transfer between the cell phone and the sleepbuds.
I’ve been using the alarm setting to make sure I wake up on time, but I’ve also found myself setting the alarm clock as a back-up, because the sleepbuds have fallen out of my ear during the night. I find the sleepbuds to be comfortable and they mostly do stay put throughout the night.
I did run into a few times where the magnetic catch in the case snapped the sleepbuds in but didn’t line up well enough to charge. That meant that only one side was really charged when I went to use them. The lights in the case will tell you if they lined up and are charging, but first thing in the morning, I’m not always paying enough attention.
Conclusion: The Bose Sleepbuds II do exactly what I expected them to do. I wanted something that could block out the ambient noise and let me fall and stay asleep. I think viewing them as that type of product is great. I think the limitation to play only the sounds that are set from the library makes sense with the power requirements of playing the same sound on a loop for up to 10 hours at a time.
If you are looking for in ear headphones, these aren’t them. If you are looking for passive noise blocking white noise machines that go in your ear and let you sleep, they work nicely.
I did try the Amazfit Zenbuds as an alternate product. They were defective in that one would never turn on so I could never pair them with my phone. Given that they were broken from the start, I decided that might be a sign and decided to go with the Bose Sleepbuds II and I couldn’t be happier with the way that turned out.
